Harvesting a Culinary Herb Garden

The intention for this project included researching a topic and creating system to represent the object’s change over time. Drawn to the therapeutic aspects of horticulture at a young age and background in behavioral medicine, I created a 13-page accordion booklet in a large scale window box to capture harvesting an herb garden.

Typography and imagery integrated on the cover and throughout the pages inform the viewer how to grow and harvest herbs from early summer to  late fall. A mixture of rustic natural colors on the cover combined with typography elicit a farm-to-table culinary experience. Green and eggshell vectored stripes created on the back highlight the vintage quality of the solution. 

As a second layer, I used plant-based Mitsumatu paper to constitute a slipcover and reinforce the organic harmony of nature. A circular cut out on the cover with photography emerges through the window referencing the herb’s esculent qualities.
